Reinventing Maternal and Child Health: Coordinating the Boundaries Between Social Determinants and Clinical Care

As changes occur in the field of Maternal and Child Health (MCH), innovative approaches are needed to address critical issues. Life Course, a perspective that has roots in other disciplines, builds upon collaborations and partnerships in the broader public health system and in other disciplines. The process of applying Life Course in practice allows for flexibility and innovation and is critical for long-lasting and effective health improvements. Program faculty will discuss the role each public health professional can play in contributing to this system change and social movement within MCH.

Provide a quick summation of the status of the Maternal and Child Health industry in America today.

Communicate an operating framework/matrix to implement a Life Course Approach to MCH practice.
- Communicate specific policy and practice strategies for state and local action in Alabama.
- Define the leadership mandate to reinvent maternal and child health.
Target Audience:
Pediatricians, nurses, social workers, maternal and child health professionals, public health administrators and educators, academicians.

Strategic National Stockpile (SNS) & Points of Dispensing (POD) Training
The training activities will include the following:
This course has been awarded 3.0 (General) HOURS CPE CREDIT by the Alabama Pharmacy Association for pharmacists and pharmacy techs. All who wish to receive this continuing education credit must provide their NABP ePID # when completing the evaluation at the training.
This course has also been awarded 2.0 contact hours for Nurses and Social Workers. ASNA Activity Number: 5-91.845. Nurses and Social Workers will need their current license number to receive credit hours.
Course dates and locations:
If an event occurs in which the Strategic National Stockpile (SNS) has to be accessed by the State of Alabama, health professionals and others should be familiar with the SNS and how to respond when received. Training venues for 2013 sessions have been selected to offer the current SNS training course to health professionals including pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, nurses, social workers, mental health personnel, emergency management personnel, immunization personnel and others.
The training activities will include the following:
- Plenary sessions providing a general overview of the SNS for all participants
- Demonstration and exercise of a Point of Dispensing (POD) site
- Breakout sessions for each of the disciplines to discuss professional issues, evaluations, awarding of certificates and adjournment. Each breakout session will be led by a professional(s) within that discipline
