WORKSHOPS, CONFERENCES, & EXERCISES
The training activities will include the following:
- Plenary sessions providing a general overview of the SNS for all participants
- Demonstration and exercise of a Point of Dispensing (POD) site
- Breakout sessions for each of the disciplines to discuss professional issues, evaluations, awarding of certificates and adjournment. Each breakout session will be led by a professional(s) within that discipline
This course has been awarded 3.0 (General) HOURS CPE CREDIT by the Alabama Pharmacy Association for pharmacists and pharmacy techs. All who wish to receive this continuing education credit must provide their NABP ePID # when completing the evaluation at the training.
This course has also been awarded 2.0 contact hours for Nurses and Social Workers. ASNA Activity Number: 5-91.845. Nurses and Social Workers will need their current license number to receive credit hours.
Sexually Transmitted Infections and the Law in Alabama: Examining the Legal Responsibilities and Supportive Services for Persons Living with STIs/HIV

Program Description:
Over the past 30 years, much has been written about legal rights, healthcare policies and procedures, and confidentiality measures specific to sexually transmitted infections (STIs) including HIV. Program faculty will provide a forum for the presentation and discussion regarding Alabama laws and the State Board of Health's rules and regulations specific to STIs/HIV. Information regarding how these laws, as well as Federal law, apply to the practice of case management are also provided. While this information pertains to practitioners and public health employees in Alabama, participants from other states and jurisdictions are welcome to view this program.
Program Objectives:
- Define the following: confidential, law, consent, rule, STI, HIV/AIDS, ADA, HIPPA.
- Discuss key Alabama and Federal laws regarding STIs/HIV, including specific requirements regarding consent and testing issues, handling of test results, and treatment issues.
- Identify legal and community resources available to those people living with HIV in Alabama.
- Discuss how these laws apply to case management.
